Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are renowned for their superior charge capacity per volume, coupled with exceptional reliability and durability. They find applications in consumer electronics as well as in more specialized domains such as space exploration, aviation electronics, defense systems, and rail transportation. Exxelia specializes in both solid and wet tantalum capacitors, offering a range of configurations including through-hole and surface-mount device (SMD) versions.

Our solid tantalum capacitors, featuring manganese dioxide (MnO2) cathodes, are available in metal hermetically sealed packages and molded cases, supporting axial, radial, and SMD configurations. Exxelia has led advancements in reducing equivalent series resistance (ESR) through the use of polymer cathodes. This innovation not only ensures a safe failure mode by preventing thermal ignition but also achieves higher capacitance values and significantly lower ESR. Our solid polymer tantalum capacitors are exclusively available in SMD formats.

In addition to these, Exxelia offers wet tantalum capacitors designed for high-temperature applications up to 200°C, making them particularly suitable for the demanding environments of the oil and gas industry. These capacitors are engineered to withstand harsh conditions while providing reliable performance, making them ideal for applications requiring robust and durable components.

Exxelia stands out in the industry by offering military-grade wet tantalum capacitors that meet stringent Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) specifications DSCC 93026 and DSCC 10004, as well as MIL-STD 39006/22 and /25 level M & level P. Our range also includes space-qualified capacitors, designed to withstand the harsh environments of space missions. This dedication to quality and performance underlines our commitment to meeting the demanding requirements of military and aerospace applications, ensuring reliability and efficiency in critical missions.

What are MIL-qualified capacitors, and why are they important?

MIL-qualified capacitors meet stringent military specifications (e.g., MIL-PRF and MIL-STD standards) ensuring high reliability, durability, and performance in critical applications like aerospace, defense, and industrial electronics.

How does Exxelia ensure MIL certification compliance?

Exxelia manufactures its MIL-qualified capacitors in accordance with all relevant military specifications. Capacitors are tested, marked, and validated to meet operational parameters outlined in MIL standards such as MIL-PRF-39006 and MIL-PRF-55514.

What failure rates are available for MIL-qualified capacitors?

Exxelia offers capacitors with established reliability, achieving failure rates as low as 0.001% per 1,000 hours (S level) at a 90% confidence level. Other available levels include M (1%), P (0.1%), and R (0.01%).

What military specifications are covered by Exxelia capacitors?

Exxelia's MIL-qualified capacitors comply with key specifications such as:

  • MIL-PRF-39006: Wet tantalum capacitors for high-reliability applications.
  • MIL-PRF-55514: Film capacitors for DC and AC circuits.
  • MIL-PRF-83421: Metallized plastic film capacitors.
Why choose MIL-qualified capacitors for your projects?

MIL-qualified capacitors guarantee:

  • Resistance to extreme conditions (temperature, vibration, humidity).
  • Long operational life and low failure rates.
  • Strict quality assurance processes validated by military standards.
Where can I access MIL specifications for further details?

MIL specifications are publicly accessible via government websites like www.dla.mil/Land-and-Maritime
