Exxelia expands its High-Performance Dielectric Resonators and Ferrites capabilities for Microwave Applications

Exxelia enlarges its Dielectric Resonators (DR) material and Ferrite offering for high-frequency applications.

New capabilities include the use of its latest E7000 material, which provides narrow bandwidths, temperature stability and high Q-factor together with advanced manufacturing skills such as the capability to deliver extremely small size, and complex ferrite designs.

Exxelia's E7000 series is a Ba-Mg-Ta based material that combines an ultra-high Q-factor and the possibility to get different temperature coefficients upon request. E7000 features the highest performance requested for space use in the frequency range from 5 to 32 GHz, and guarantees a Qxf up to > 250 000 at 10GHZ.

In addition, Exxelia is now able to support the most advanced RF designs with the delivery of complex geometries such as Y-shape ferrites for microwave switches or Toroidal designs for phase shifters applications. Those miniaturized and complex products may be as small as few mm only and benefit from exceptional quality, superior performance and low loss (ΔH) materials.

Exxelia is a unique manufacturer producing its own raw materials for Ferrites and Dielectrics with proprietary formulations for use in the most demanding environments.

Nicolas Dabadie, Microwave Materials business development manager at Exxelia said: "We are pleased to support our customers’ more and more complex designs and demanding applications. Our unique capability to master the manufacturing from raw materials to high-end finished products opens the way to new solutions for microwave applications going from few MHz to 40GHz".

Ferrite materials are used in microwave devices such as isolators, circulators, diplexers, filters and phase shifters. They have dielectric and magnetic properties due to the presence of magnetic ions such as iron within the composition. Exxelia also offers a wide range of dielectric resonators series, including coaxial resonators in different sizes.

Exxelia equips the Turkish satellite IMECE with tantalum and ceramic capacitors

IMECE is a technological feat that pushes the boundaries of high-resolution imaging. Exxelia is proud to play an essential role in this space adventure by providing quality components to ensure proper operation.   IMECE is an earth observation satellite designed and developed by TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute (TÜBİTAK UZAY) and produced in Türkiye to provide high-resolution imagery. The spacecraft has a mass of 800 kg (1,800 lb) and it will serve at 680 km (420 mi) on a sun-synchronous geocentric orbit. The Satellite, projected for a mission duration of five years, has 0.99m image resolution of Panchromatic (PAN). The satellite has been launched on 15 April 2023 on a SpaceX's Falcon 9 Block 5 rocket as part of the Transporter-7 ridershare mission.   Exxelia equips the satellite with PM series capacitors that are used in the satellite's Power Distribution Unit (PDU). Exxelia's PM series capacitors are renowned for their reliability, performance, and durability, making them ideal for space applications. Exxelia also supplies tantalum capacitors and ceramic capacitors for the payloads of the IMECE Satellite. These components are designed to withstand the extreme conditions of space and ensure the proper operation of scientific instruments and equipment on board the satellite.   We look forward to the discoveries and data that the IMECE Satellite will provide during its five-year mission. The future of space exploration looks promising, and Exxelia will continue to play an active role in this exciting adventure.

ESA QPL Film Capacitors PM907S and PM948S are full series of Polyester Film Capacitors. PM907S products are suitable for voltages from 50V up to 1250V and offer capacitance values from 82nF up to 180μF. PM948S can be used from 50V up to 630V with capacitance values from 22nF up to 47μF. Both series can support extreme conditions with temperatures from -55°C to +125°C, and offer high energy density, low ESR & ESL and high RMS current. Film capacitor Series PM907S and PM948S are ESA QPL certified according to the ESCC Detail Specification No. 3006/025 and 3006/026   Smallest ESA QPL Ceramic Capacitor of the Market Exxelia ranges of low voltage MLCC for surface mounting, CEC19 and CNC19, have achieved the ESA Qualified Part List status under the criteria of the European Space Component Coordination’s (ESCC) 3009/042 and 3009/043 respectively. The  0402 size QPL-qualified parts are available from 10V to 25V, enabling substantial miniaturization and cost-saving. They are available either in the very stable NPO dielectric (type 1) or the high capacitance X7R (type 2). CEC and CNC series combine high capacitance values with high thermal and voltage stability. Versions with polymer terminations are also QPL-certified.   Miniature EMI filters for space application Exxelia’s gold-plated glass-sealed EMI filters SFC030 is the solution of choice to protect several embedded power supplies and data lines.  These small and reliable filters are available up to 5A @ 200V and 22nF.  Available in a Kovar package, the better alternative to steel for enhanced temperature cycling resistance, all Exxelia’s EMI filters for space are ESA qualified according to ESCC 3008. Thanks to this extensive experience in stringent ESA testing, Exxelia is able to adapt the tests of any filter according to any need (example: SMD 20A chip, 0pF capacitor value for an arrays of filters).
